I love Pizza Express. Fact. It’s one of our favourite restaurants to go to as a family and even my super fussy eater son loves their dough balls, but who doesn’t?
A couple of weeks ago I was invited alongside a few other bloggers to visit their newly refurbished High Holborn restaurant for a pizza party. A couple of glasses of prosecco and some nibbles and we were all ready to give pizza making a go.
Pizza making was fun. We all had a bit of a giggle trying to stretch our dough and made a bit of a mess dusting flour all over our table. But the best thing was being able to choose our own toppings for our pizzas. The Pizza Express staff were great and they were on hand to guide us and show us how it’s all done.
My pizza of choice whenever I visit Pizza Express is American Hot ( I never even look at the menu). But I decided to take the plunge, be adventurous and make a chicken, onion and chilli for my own creation. I went a bit over the top with my passata which meant my pizza edges were a bit burnt, but it was still nice although I don’t think I won’t be offered a job at Pizza Express anytime soon.
After eating our pizzas and having some coffee we were all led downstairs to see the newly refurbished floor by Lucas, the restaurant manager. What an incredible surprise that was. Think oak parquet flooring, beautiful blue velvet seats and perfect ambient lighting. More trendy West End club than Pizza Express, with banquette seating and intimate lighting this is going to be an amazing venue to watch live acts.
Pizza Express have a few restaurants that offer live music – the Soho one is a really established Jazz venue- and I can see how the High Holborn one will be an amazing venue to add the their Live restaurants. The acoustics are great and they already have big names line up for their opening next month, Morcheeba, Martin Kemp, Tom Chaplin and Mica Paris amongst others. You can see how passionate the manager is to make this a success and I am sure it will be. With an excellent location, just round the corner from Holborn station and walking distance to so many other West End attractions it will be the perfect place for dinner and drinks with friends.
I for one can’t wait to go back for a drink and a pizza to watch one of those live acts.
