Birthday parties… When I was young(er) I didn’t have huge birthday parties, I had a couple of friends round for a bit of cake and a play date and that was it. No party bags or entertainers or anything fancy,

These days organising a kid’s birthday party is a bit like a wedding, you need to find a venue, prepare a guest list and stick to a budget.  Sticking to the budget is the tricky thing, especially if you live around London, now I am not tight, but it really kills me to spend an obscene amount of money to have some kids running around like lunatics for two hours.

We are organising my son’s 6th birthday and this is truly the highlight of his year (apart from Christmas) he has been making daily guest lists for the past six months, everyday he sits down and rereads and rewrites his list (his writing skills have improved a lot thanks to this)

I am lucky that he is still quite naïve and young and I can steer him towards a venue that he will really love, i.e. economical, so he is happy and we are happy but I’m really not sure how long this will last.

I wish I had the time and the ideas to organise something fantastic and great but unfortunately I haven’t. I always see great ideas in Pinterest and other blogs and  I ‘d love to do something like that for him, but I am sure he will be happy with the party and he will enjoy it regardless.

Do you do a party for your children? Do you stick to a budget or do you get carried away? What do you think about big do’s for children?

Last month we spent a week in Menorca in the resort of Cala N’Bosch. Menorca is perfect for families, it’s a small island, not too built up and relatively quiet.

We stayed at the Paradise Club &Spa which is part of the Mar Hotels Chain, we decided to stay there because of the facilities, and also because it is very close to the marina and the beach.

Pools

The hotel had 3 pools, one of them a splash pool, which is where we spent most of our time, a big one suitable for families and a “quiet” one.

The splash pool was of course the most popular one and it’s where the kids wanted to be all day. My kids especially enjoyed being there towards the end of the day, when they switched off the water slides and it was a bit quieter.

Food

Pre children we would have never contemplated the idea of going all inclusive but these days it’s the ideal option for us.

The food from the buffet was excellent, quite a big choice for everybody and they even had a chocolate fountain one evening much to the kids delight.

For those that didn’t want to have lunch in the restaurant, there was a burger bar next to one of the pools.

Being all inclusive meant the kids could have as many ice creams, drinks and of course slush as they wanted

Kids

The hotel’s kids club was run by Thomas Cook, they had two different groups  3 –7 and 8 -11. The kids went nearly every day to at least one session and they really enjoyed it, this meant we had 2 and a half hours to ourselves.

The hotel also had it’s own entertainment  with daily activities for children and adults

Negatives

We had a one bedroom apartment which was big enough for the 4 of us, but it was a bit dated, the bathroom had a bath with a shower and it also had a separate shower which always flooded the floor whenever we used it.

There were also too many sun loungers around the pools, so many that you couldn’t really walk around them. I guess it’s probably not very nice in high season when it’s very busy and everybody is on top of each other.

Overall it was a fantastic holiday, we all really enjoyed ourselves and the kids keep asking when are we going back again

Would we go back to the same place? Definitely, although I’d like to try and explore a different part of the island.

Have you been to Menorca? Did you like it? What other resorts in Menorca do you recommend?

This is my little baby today too excited to go to bed after spending the weekend at his grandparents. He is exhausted but so full of life and excitement, all giggles and excuses to delay bedtime.

He is a little charmer that gets away with too many things  thanks to that gorgeous smile.
